Principal Investments is the private equity buyout platform of Novo Holdings, investing in leading, growth-oriented healthcare and life science companies across Europe and North America. We look to support leading management teams delivering sustainable, long-term growth and value creation, with a particular focus on fuelling innovation and growth along the healthcare value chain. We primarily invest within life science services, life science tools and diagnostics, MedTech and healthcare IT.
Principal Investments seeks to invest $100–500+ million in each transaction. Beyond capital, we offer engaged ownership and access to a broad network of seasoned healthcare and life sciences executives and specialists, along with deep sector insights and expertise on a global scale. We have a flexible mandate in terms of investment duration and modality, predominantly targeting control and co-control situations but also open to significant minority positions with appropriate governance rights, allowing us to deploy our engaged ownership approach.
Established in 2013, Principal Investments today operates out of Copenhagen and Boston. As of year-end 2024, 36 employees work in Principal Investments. Team members have a strong background within healthcare-focused private equity investing, tier 1 investment banking and/or consulting. We are all driven by a shared strategic vision of delivering strong financial returns by helping management teams and companies reach their full potential, while also delivering positive societal impact through our investments.

Our investment mandate and assets
By the end of 2024, Principal Investments had 16 portfolio companies of which eight are headquartered in Europe and eight in North America, with a total portfolio value of DKK 99 billion.
